In the need of better conversation skills? Are you bored of always asking the same old questions when getting to know someone? Don’t worry, I have you covered. Most of the time when we get to know someone we ask the same questions over and over again. What is your favourite movie, what books do you like, where have you been traveling to, aso.? Those questions are perfectly reasonable to ask and can give you some impressions of what is important to your opposite. But trust me, getting to know someone can be so much more exciting and fulfilling than that. You just have to know the right questions to ask. So today I want to give you 8 questions you can ask someone whom you want to get to know better. It can be a close friend you’ve known for a long time, or someone you just meet. These questions will show you sides of that friend you didn’t ´know before and in addition they will inspire your opposite to really think about themselves and think outside of the box. So, if you are ready to make your conversations and interactions more fun and inspirational, then keep reading.
I love conversations. I love to inspire people to think beyond their usual environment and really dwell on some questions. When you make people think further and realize things about themselves they didn’t know before it makes them crave your interaction even more. The most beautiful thing with relationships is that you can inspire each other to think outside of the box, come up with new ideas and insights into each other’s and one’s own lives. Interactions with other people are wonderful because they not only show you more about that awesome person right in front of you, but can also tell you a lot about yourself. All it needs is some good questions to ask and here they are.
I love to ask this question because it is so random. No one really expects it and people are usually surprised when getting asked that because it’s something they’ve never thought of before. I always tell them, it doesn’t matter if it’s a single food like a pepper or a potato or if it’s a meal like pasta with tomato sauce or pizza. They also should not name their favourite food because that wasn’t the question. The question asks what food they were according to their personality and characteristics. I for example would be a coconut because coconuts are hard and unexciting from the outside. They can be underestimated and you really need to put in effort to get to look what’s inside. They are strong and powerful in their being. Coconuts are sometimes hard to open but once you got the look inside they are extraordinary, sweet and soft. They have an exotic and refreshing side to them and they are quite like no other fruit.
Coconuts are more than what they appear to be. Now you turn. What food would you be and why?
This question is amazing one to add do your conversation skill repertoire. It helps you to find out how the other person perceives herself and to make her reflect on herself. Many people, at least in my opinion, don’t reflect often enough on themselves and their personality. You need to have a sense of who you are and what areas need improvement to work towards a better self. Of cause, you can never totally understand who you are and you don’t have to. It’s also not important to identify yourself too much with those characteristics, they are simply a help to find out where your strengths and weaknesses are so you can acknowledge your strength and accept and work on your weaknesses. If you are open for it you can also ask the other person to do the same for you. But don’t judge or analyse too much. Just take what they say and know that it’s not all you are. These might be parts of yourself but there is much more to you that those 6 characteristics. Take them as a compliment or inspiration for improvement.
If nothing was impossible, how would you imagine your life? What would you be doing, where would you be, with whom would you be?
This question is awesome if you want to make someone dream and show them that nothing is impossible. It brings the deepest wishes and dreams of your opposite to daylight and gives you and insight in their desire and what they imagine for themselves. Knowing that you can use this and let them know that what they dream of is not that impossible. Having a vision is halfway to success. Make them feel certain about their ability to make everything come true. Nelson Mandela once said: “It always seems impossible, until it’s done.” If there was only one thing you had to do for the rest of your life, what would it be? Another great question to learn more about someone’s passion. In addition, this question helps your opponent to draw her attention to what really matters. This is the best question to ask to help someone focus on what really is important. The answer to this should be where your main life focus lies on and if it doesn’t yet, you should definitely include some more activities around this in your daily life.
We all have a package to carry but many of us deny it to themselves and others because they fear they are weak. But you know what, as long as you don’t accept that you have this struggle to fight you can’t overcome it. You need to be aware of what is wrong to make it right. So, by asking someone of their greatest struggle you make them speak it out loud and they will soon realize it was the first step towards overcoming that struggle and moving deeper in to the spirit of their essence.
A perfect question to ask if you plan to spoil someone. You not only get a good sense of what matters to the person but also know what you have to top to give them their next best present. For the other person, it’s a great way to be reminded of what they really care for and they usually smile when remembering their best present.
Like the question with the adjectives, this makes someone reflect on themselves and point out their dreams. It gives you a greater sense of what is behind the person you are talking to and shows you their life intention. For the other one it’s great to be reconnected with one’s purpose and ambition in life and especially when they have a hard time or are confused it’s a great way to lead them back into the right direction.
Finally, with the food question, my absolute favourite question to ask, because it shows people that every day, really is a happy day. Happiness is now. Happiness is in every day. You just have to become aware of it. Even if you had a bad day there was at least one thing that made you smile today. I am 100% certain. Drawing someone’s attention to this one or multiple things makes them stay positive and brings more happiness into their lives. Also, it’s great way for you to find out what you can do to cheer them up, next time they feel down.
That’s it with the questions, I hope you liked them and feel free to answer them yourself if you want to. You can even share your answer on Instagram and tag me in the post so I can see you answer. I’m very curious what you would say.
In addition, feel free to send this post to a person you’d like to get answers on these questions from.
