I am facing that challenge every day. I ask myself so often whether I should continue traveling the world or building my business. However, no matter how hard I think about it, I never find a consent. I know I can’t live without either of them, so there must be a way to get both. And, lucky us, I developed a few habits that will help you to crush it while traveling. I am going to give you my top 10 tips on how to build a career and achieve your goals while traveling the world.

So, last week we have been talking about how to maintain a travel-life balance. I pointed out some benefits of striving for a career and travel the world at the same time. In addition, I told you how important it is to keep a balance and continue working for both at any time. Finally, I mentioned what it takes to combine traveling and obligations and build a future you love.

This week, I want to dive into that a bit more in detail. I’m giving you a guideline to follow and some tricks to apply to make sure you keep achieving your goals while you are traveling.

Sounds good?! Okay, let’s get started.

Before we dive into the tips, I need you to know something first.

Deciding you want to build a career or working on your future and keep traveling isn’t an easy thing. You must be aware that it will cost you a lot of commitment and willpower. You have to constantly remind yourself, why you are doing this and motivate yourself, to keep going.

Traveling is distracting, you experience so much, you can get tired of it. Also, you meet so many people every day and everyone lives life differently, it is easy to lose yourself and get of track with pursuing your goals. And trust me when I say, the longer you travel, the harder it will get to sit down and work for achieving said goals.

But that is why you’re here, right?! To get tips on how to not fall of track or find back on it if you have fallen of.

Well, I won’t let you wait longer, here are my top 8 tips on crushing it while traveling that will help you to keep achieving your goals.

How to maintain the hustle:

1. Set a time frame and establish a good working space.

That’s kind of the foundation of your hustle being successful while traveling.

You need to treat “hustling” like one of your other goals. Set yourself a time frame of how many hours you’re going to work towards your goals each day. You of cause don’t have to pick an exact time when to do it but the duration. For example, aim for working 3 hours a day.

Second you need to find a quiet place you can work at. Especially when living in a hostel, there are always people around who are potential distractions. Shut everything out for those few hours you set yourself every day to be able to focus and really crush it.

2. Treat it like work.

Treat this hours of crushing it as working hours.

As it is with work, you can’t just skip it and say: “No! I’m not doing it!”

Stick to your plan and commit by considering it as your job to do it.

3. Remind yourself and tell others how important this is for you.

When spending a lot of time with other people, which is quite common while traveling, it can happen that your priorities shift. You might develop a kind of FOMO when thinking of working and not spending time with those people.

Then you must remind yourself of how important it is to you to achieve your goals. Remember why you want it and take this motivation to cut yourself lose for a few hours.

Also in case there are people that won’t let you take that time because they just want to be around you all the time, tell them how important it is to you to have those few hours to follow your goals.

4. Do what you feel like doing and must be done as well.

I know sometimes you just don’t want to do the same old sh*t, you’ve been doing at home. Especially when everything while traveling is so exciting.

But the good thing is you don’t have to pressure yourself to do something you don’t want to do. I am sure there are plenty things that you always wanted to do that have nothing to do with the thing you’re not feeling like doing.

Am I right?

Well then think of things that need to be done as well but might bring you more joy right now.

Example: During my time in South Africa, I really didn’t want to continue learning Web design but I enjoyed editing my photos and playing around with filming. Both things I wanted and needed to do for a long time to develop my skills a bit further.

What you can do to crush it:

5. Consider starting a new side project. Be flexible and creative.

One thing I do before I go on a trip, to make sure that I keep crushing it is, that I think of side projects I could do while traveling, that will benefit me and my goals. Is there something you wanted to do for a long time but just never had the time for? Then maybe now is the time to start doing it.

6. Take the time to read and listen.

Many people think they are too busy reading books or doing some research when at home. Though while traveling there aren’t any excuses. Pick up a book that’ll teach you something about an area of interest. Listen to podcasts on topics that’ll help you achieve your goals and read articles on same topics. This way you’ll get new input all the time, which then will automatically motivate you to take action.

7. Do some networking.

A huge benefit of traveling is that you meet so many people from all over the world. Take this opportunity to network and make new contacts with potential partners or costumers. Listen to people’s stories, think of ways you could help them and don’t hesitate to tell your story.

You never know who you might meet that could help you in the future.

8. Experiment and do some research.

What better time to try new things or skills you’ve learned then when traveling. Of cause, it really depends on what your goals look like but I am sure it’s never wrong to test new learned things in a different environment. Also take the opportunity of being outside of your usual space to do some research on your market/costumer/area of interest in a different surrounding. You might discover new insights that will help you improve.

There are so many ways of how you can crush it while traveling. So, keep being creative and flexible to find whatever works best for you. Also, don’t beat yourself up for not doing what you have planned. Rather think of a way you can still crush it.

In addition, it’s never a bad idea to take a few days of, if you feel drowned by your goals. Take that time to recharge and free up your mind.

And in the end, if you really want to achieve those goals, you’ll get back to it and then show the necessary willpower and commitment to make it happen.
