We all want to be seen, heard and acknowledged. Yet it is not beneficial for you or your mental health to strive being live everyone else. You are special and it is save for you to stop trying to be something you are not. Rather be yourself and bring out the best in you.
For those of you who are new here, welcome to “Chasing Dreams” a series that teaches you how to live a happier and healthier life. Every month I share some insights into my past two weeks and share with you not only what I’ve been up to but more importantly what I’ve learned though life and everything that has happened. I reflect on those lessons and see how they’ve helped me to become happier, healthier and closer to my dreams.
Sharing those experiences with you I hope to give you some guidance and inspiration on how you too can see those little lessons life is teaching us every day and take those opportunities as a chance to enhance change and consciousness.
I hope that through my story and my experiences throughout the weeks you get new input and maybe a heads up when you need it to keep going with your passions, see the bright side of life and share this positivity across your tribe. I will tell you what I’ve learned about life and happiness and give you inspiration on how to deal with all the ups and downs every one of us has in their lives. It really is all about being real, being authentic and showing that no matter what, there’s always a way to see things positively and take them as an opportunity to learn and grow and create more happiness.
So, if you’re ready, let’s get started.
Every single day so many things happen we can learn from and sometimes it’s hard to keep up with them all. The more important is it, to take the time to reflect on yourself and take a break.
The weekend of March 9th me and a couple friends jumped in the car and went on a little weekend getaway to Peniche. I was very excited to have one of my best surfer friends from home visiting me and finally not have to go surf all by myself anymore.
This weekend we really did nothing but surfing, eating and relaxing. It was awesome. It wasn’t until then that I realized how much I needed that break. I don’t even remember the last time I really took time off. I mean like no phones, no Laptop, no calendar. It’s been a long time.
This year I set myself some goals to take my current stage of life one step further. This of cause implements that I push through more challenging times and stay committed even if I don’t feel like it. Nevertheless, it is still important to know when it is time to step back and take a couple days off. Peniche was awesome. It was great to be back into surfing routine as there was a long break due to enormous swell the past few weeks.
I surfed my heart out and was never that physically exhausted at the end of the day. It’s a great feeling. Furthermore, the much I love waking up early and enjoying as much time of the day as possible, the great it was to sleep in a little longer. We literally went to bed by 9PM the latest and woke up not before 7AM, which drove one of my friends a little crazy 😉 as they are used to stay up late.
Back home I had new energy and motivation to pursuit my goals. Creating new things is such a rewarding thing to do. If you have never done it or didn’t do it for a long time, I can just recommend getting back into it or starting to create things of your own. The pure excitement you get when you see what you’ve been creating is indescribable. If you wonder what I’m creating, stay patient for a few more weeks. I’m about to release more details very, very soon.
What can I say, living here in Lisbon is great. It’s finally spring, it’s getting warm and is sunny all the time. Being outside is no longer a challenge due to cold weather but more a pleasure. The tan is coming back and vitamin D is finally not a lake anymore.
University is fun, surf is constantly good and my social life on fleek. However, as it is with everything in life, nothing is not changing and you get challenged almost every day to guard the state of inner peace. At sometimes, when everything in life is at sync, when everything goes round – like these days -, that’s not such a big challenge.
However, when your life situation gets out of sync because one thing or maybe only your Mindset is changing this is where it gets challenging. Then it is on you to stay focused and present and not let any negative thoughts effect your inner state of peace and happiness. You then need to be more aware then ever of how little you are defined through what you do or think. None of this is crucial to your happiness. It doesn’t matter what you think you need or need to do to be happy. Know that whether life is at sync or not is all up to you and your state of presence. If you manage to let go of what causes inner restlessness, you will feel that sync coming back. Only if you hold on to that negative state that is caused through your thoughts, you will feel not at peace. Stop thinking and let go.

For me it was not a change of my life situation that caused restlessness, it was one of my goals that colluded with my sense of inner peace. I know it is part of my job, part of my dream and part of my goal to be present on Social Media. However, it is not always easy. We can’t stop trying to be like others or compare ourselves. At sometimes the information overload gets too much, I feel burned out and uninspired because of identifying ourselves so much with all of that. We need to stop trying to process all that information.
What helps me to get out of this state is building the awareness of when it is time to push and when it is time to hold back. It doesn’t really matter what I do. Nothing that I will ever do, nothing that I will ever accomplish is having an impact on who I am or whether I am happy or not. Therefore, I can stop trying to be something or act in a way that doesn’t make me feel comfortable and at peace. If there’s something that causes resistance you need to drop that resistance by knowing that whatever causes it is of little relevance. I’m not saying dropping everything is always the best option. If you want to reach your goals you need to push through such challenges and sometimes do things you don’t like to do. It is all about knowing when you have to push and when it’s okay to step back and away from whatever causes that negative emotions. Once you realize something really doesn’t work for you, it’s okay to drop it or change the way you are approaching that goal. Step away from the situation and come back once you feel ready to approach it in a positive and productive way again.
