Happy Friday everyone

Welcome and welcome back my blog, it’s so good to have you here.

If you believe it or not but two weeks are over already and it’s time for another part of the “chasing dreams” series. I hope you are excited for today lessons.

For all those who are not aware of the concept behind this “chasing dreams” series, every second week I share some insights into the past weeks and share with you not only what I’ve done but also what I’ve learned and how it helped me to be happier. Sharing those experiences with you I hope to give you some guidance to also take every opportunity as a chance to embrace change and consciousness.

5th to 19th of April

You might have realized that there was no post the past Friday. I was a little sick the last couple weeks and therefore really had no inspiration to write something.

However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t learned throughout this time. Especially through such times we learn a lot as we have to adjust and cut everything back to the essential as our bodies need the break to get healthy again.

So now that I’m feeling slightly better, I thought it was a great opportunity to give you some insights into what this illness has thought me.

What you don’t have a lot you value more

It all started with my best friend coming to visit me in Lisbon. I’ve so badly looked forward to this as I haven’t seen hear in months. That btw. is one of the downsides of long term traveling and moving to a different country.

I took those five days of everything to solely enjoy spending time with her and showing her around Lisbon.

It really is true and I experience it every time again, when I see a friend or family member again, you appreciate those times when you have your closest people around so much more, if you don’t get to see them that much.

You want to get the most out of it and celebrate every moment you have in a whole different way because you know that it’s going to be a long time until the next time you see each other.

In addition, you actually realize it only then, how much you’ve missed them.

Missing really is a special feeling. It can get hidden and covered up by the excitement you feel for being where you are and living the incredible life you live.

However, once you then see your friends again, you realize how much you’ve missed them and only after a day or two you can’t imagine a time where you don’t see each other anymore.

I love this fact about distance friendships and relationships, because you not only appreciate the others company more, but also realize how important those few people really are to you and how lucky you both are that even a distance and very little time together can’t bring you apart.

Friends with whom you cover a long distance and a long time without seeing and with whom it still feels like yesterday that you’ve seen each other, those are true friends.

Keep them save.


Watch out for the signs

Through this time off however, my whole body seemed to slow down after the busy time I had before.

The weeks before weren’t stressful in a negative sense. I was just really busy living life and enjoying myself and keeping up with all my goals and resolutions. And maybe it was a little too much.

Unfortunately, you don’t realize it until it is too late that you’ve pushed too far.

Especially when you like to test your limits and expand your comfort zone, one the one hand of course it is necessary to push and see how far you can go, but it is also necessary to realize soon enough when you are pushing too much.

For me I’m still learning to find the balance. I naturally push, because I know that I am capable of much more than my mind thinks and most of the time it works out well. I accomplish more than I thought and I enjoy life to a greater degree than I would have if I didn’t push.

However, sometimes I miss that one sign that tells me to stop and hold back.

When you are someone who tends to push, and want to expand your limits it is even more crucial to be conscious and present and watch out for those signs that tell you that it is time to slow down a bit and take a break.

I unfortunately missed it this time.


The consequences will come sooner or later

If you, like me, then miss those signs you have to suffer the consequences because they come sooner or later.

For me it was right after my friend left. I first felt only a little tired and I thought, well maybe that’s my body who needs a break from training.

But over the previous week it didn’t get better. It also didn’t get worse but I was just feeling so fatigue and tired all the time, which is very uncommon for me.

This sign however I didn’t miss. It was the last scream of my body to tell me to slow down.

I slowed down but as I wasn’t feeling any pain or illness I just cut back on training and slept more.

Though as it didn’t get better I slowly realized that I might have taken it too far. That I might have done too much and took to little break and now I have to deal with the consequences and take time off everything until I’m healthy again. Whether I like it or not.


Stop before it’s too late

So, one thing I really learned out of this sickness then it is to stop before it’s too late. I know this is easier said than done.

And I know that I will probably push too far again at some point in my life, which is fine as long as you find peace and accept the consequences. Usually those experiences is when we learn the most about ourselves and learn to read and listen to our bodies.

And like I said without pushing there will be no growing.

But the beauty lies in, and that is what I take away from these past weeks, to see the early signs. To pay attention to what your body is telling you and not just ignore it but acknowledge it.

Make the best out of it

Lastly, even if it sucks to suffer the consequences and not be in proper shape, the sooner you make peace with it and make the best out of it, the better.

It will only make it worse if you feel sorry for yourself or resist this state of sickness by wanting it to be gone.

This is the perfect time to surrender to what is and adapt a positive Mindset.

I used that time I gained by not training and working to spend time with my friends (as I wasn’t super sick so I had to stay in bed) and watched the Caparica Surf Fest QS contest.

It was super fun and even though I wished I could have surfed myself, it was great to focus on spending time with people I love and enjoy the sun and beach vibes.

So, as you can see, it might suck to have taken it too far and have to suffer the consequences, but the sooner you make peace with the fact that you have to and start making the best out of it, the better.

Your health will come back at some point, when you stop trying to force it.
