Eventually we all want to be happy and live a life based on what we love. But sometimes we can lose faith and trust in ourselves and our ability to make your dreams come true. Today I want to give you a few reminders how you can find new strength and focus to keep going.
For those of you who are new here, welcome to “Chasing Dreams” a series that teaches you how to live a happier and healthier life. Every month I share some insights into my past two weeks and share with you not only what I’ve been up to but more importantly what I’ve learned though life and everything that has happened. I reflect on those lessons and see how they’ve helped me to become happier, healthier and closer to my dreams.
Sharing those experiences with you I hope to give you some guidance and inspiration on how you too can see those little lessons life is teaching us every day and take those opportunities as a chance to enhance change and consciousness.
I hope that through my story and my experiences throughout the weeks you get new input and maybe a heads up when you need it to keep going with your passions, see the bright side of life and share this positivity across your tribe. I will tell you what I’ve learned about life and happiness and give you inspiration on how to deal with all the ups and downs every one of us has in their lives. It really is all about being real, being authentic and showing that no matter what, there’s always a way to see things positively and take them as an opportunity to learn and grow and create more happiness.
This month has been all about realignment. Sometimes when life gets crazy and especially in the world we currently live in it can be hard to lose faith and trust in yourself and your ability to make your dreams come true. It can also be very daunting to always hope and then get the hope crushed because life just had other plans. But you know, we have to get up and keep going because eventually things will play out in our favour again and life will go upwards again too. And in fact, no matter how life looks at this present moment, there are always a few things you can do to keep the good vibes up and regain new strength to take on life.
The first thing you need to know about happiness and momentum is that we constantly need to push outside of our comfort zone and keep learning new things. To make your dreams come true, you need to learn to deal with whatever life gives you and you need to learn to use it as an opportunity rather than a threat. This includes facing your fear and doing something that you might not have done without this circumstance happening to you. This got especially clear to me this month. 2020 has been a lot of playing save and in my comfort zone but the longer I go like this the more I realize that it leads me to taking the “wrong” decisions. Not that there are any, but I just know that if I’d just face my fears I would be much happier and gain much more momentum. It starts with something simple as moving out and away from home to something so complex as quitting my side job.
Learning new things is another thing I realized one has to do, less to make your dreams come true but more to be happy in times like these. Obviously learning something new will always take you further but many people underestimate the power learning a new skill has on your mood. Engaging in something that you’ve never done before can give you exactly the challenge you need to take your mind of all the crazy things happening right now and onto mastering yourself and getting better.
This learning new things comes back to the fact that our experience of life is made up in our mind. Since our mind controls the way we feel and think about what happens it ultimately is the source of our reality. Since for many “to make your dreams come true” means ultimately to be happy and create a reality we like experiencing, this is an important learning. We need to start understanding, that our mindset matters and the way you feel and what you think about a circumstance that is happening to you in life whether that is COVID or anything else, this what happens in your mind is defining your experience of life. This ultimately means we need to choose to see things from a positive point of view, see the good sides, the opportunities, learn to shut out thoughts that are not productive or causing order and joy in our life and rather direct them to a more happy place. If that mindset change isn’t possible by itself we sometimes need to engage in activities that are all consuming in a way that brings us joy. This could be reading, learning something new or meditating. This way we can also control our experience of life through controlling our mind and thus make your dreams come true.
So long I thought COVID was the worst thing that could happen to me, and it is. But I no longer let these thoughts define my reality. I chose to see the good thing in this pandemic a long time ago and let me tell you it changed everything. I cannot make it go away, but I can choose to not let it affect my state of mind and do everything I can to reduce the impact it has on my life to a minimum.

When life gets hard we sometimes loose trust and confidence in ourselves. I had a few months this year where I really questioned my ability to carry myself thought this time. I felt so weak and powerless, which is not a good feeling to have. BUT reminding yourself of the power you have: the ability to influence your experience of life and your feelings through alternating the way you think about what happens, can give you all your power back. We just need to remember that we can grow through this. That even if the present moment sucks, it is just an amazing challenge and opportunity for us to grow stronger, grow better and learn new techniques to cope and be more resilient. These are chances for us to prepare for future struggles like this and find strength within you to make your dreams come true. Once you start to see this for what it is, a challenge to make you stronger and more resilient, you can grow through it and the feeling after you have overcome this phase is incredible. I promise because I have been there. I have been in phases like this, maybe not as long but pretty similar in its intensity. It will be over, that’s just a question of time, and you will be stronger after that’s for sure.
When I think back and reflect on all the moments that provided me with the most joy, I realized something interesting. A huge percentage of the activities I did that brought me immense joy and the times I now perceive as the most valuable weren’t necessarily those that were coming the easiest. In fact, there were so many times where I thought, why did I do this, this isn’t fun, I wanted to quit and did not enjoy doing that thing while I was doing it but in the end, it turned out to be very rewarding. I definitely not always enjoy working for myself. It’s not always easy but in the end those are the things I enjoy doing most. If we are able to take the good out of those and use them as opportunities to expand ourselves and start doing them for intrinsic motivations we will get great pleasure out of them, even if they are not always fun.
Lastly to make your dreams come true you need to trust in yourself. I know it can be hard sometimes to keep believing you can do this and you have all it needs. We so often feel like we are lacking something, knowledge, resources, luck, support, opportunities, etc. But in reality, we might lack those things yes, but they are not what is holding you back from making your dreams come true. What is holding you back is the lack of trust that you can do it and that you can find out what it really is that you need to do. We spend tons of money on books, online courses, support systems aso when in reality what we really lack is the confidence and trust to take action. Now this might seem a bit controversial coming from a coach who makes money helping people and let me tell you, spending money on new resources, a support system or online courses or a coach for that matter can be the most amazing thing you can do for yourself and to make your dreams come true. It can save you tons of time and struggles and give you incredible momentum and confidence, but ultimately the decision to do so must not come from a place of lacking something, because then you put too wrong expectations on whatever you invest in. A coach, course or book cannot solve your problems, you have to solve them, those things are only tools you use to help you solve them. But you have to trust that you can solve them, and then you can see if you need new tools to help you with that or if you in fact have everything you need already.
