I am stuck in a job I hate and it really drains my energy. I feel unmotivated and tired. My boss doesn’t care about my health and wants me to work after hours all the time. My colleagues are constantly spreading negativity. I am exhausted but I can’t quit. What shall I do?
A job I hate
I totally get you. I know what it’s like to work in a job that doesn’t fulfil you, and I know how frustrating it is to know we have to work to make money and to exist in this world. However, I want to encourage you and ensure you that there is always something you can do. I don’t know your situation well enough to make any judgements but I want to give you some advice here.
First of all, when it comes to our health, our time and our energy we need to set boundaries for ourselves. Whether that is at work or with our loved ones. We need to know what we are willing and able to tolerate and what not. And then we have to make policies and communicate those boundaries. I know that can be touch sometimes, but if you don’t honour your boundaries, no one will. So stand up for yourself, I know its scary but you can do it. And trust me, nothing bad will happen if you make sure you communicate it in a kind but firm way.
Second, we need to learn to listen to ourselves, to learn to recognize when we feel tired, when something gets too much and when we can’t cope anymore. Then it is time to step back and to put self-care above everything else. No money in the world will help you to be healthy. Health is more important than money. And if you are afraid you’ll not be able to pay your bills, well, let me tell you that when it comes to surviving you will always find a solution. The question is, is staying in this job worth risking your health or is there a better option.
Lastly, you need to find out what you are really afraid of when it comes to leaving this job and finding a new one. Know that there are plenty of options for you out there, all you need to do is to find out what is holding you back from taking one of them. Most likely it is fear. But what are you really afraid of? And is there maybe something you can do to prevent that from happening or might that fear be pointless in the first place?
Consider if this fear is really worth staying in this job or might there not be a better way to deal with this?
