To improve the quality of life we need to learn to maximize flow. Flow is a state of being that allows one to be all-consumed by the activity at hand. It increases enjoyment and positive feedback and allows for order and peace to enter the consciousness and ones’ state of mind. Today we will discuss what flow means and how you can use it to improve the quality of your life effective and immediately.
Flow has changed everything for me. I used to feel really unfulfilled and unhappy due to the burdens of life and COVID. There was not much joy and gratitude in my life and I often asked myself what made me deserve all this unhappiness and hardship. I wondered how I could potentially improve my experience of life and get back the joy and happiness I experienced before COVID. I remembered a time where things felt and looked quite similar to me. A time where my freedom was also limited and I felt the same lost-ness and loneliness and confusion as I did now. And I realized what helped me then to move out of this phase and fill it with joy and opportunities for personal growth was the fact that I started to maximize flow. I started to engage in things that would bring me joy. I started to increase those moments where I felt excited and blissful and reduce all the components that brought me negativity to the bare minimum. But not only that, I consciously started to use things I loved doing to become present. I decided to let go of worrying about the future or feeling sorry for me and my current situation but rather use it as an opportunity to learn something new, to expand myself and to build strength and resilience.
I’ve experienced flow before and it was for these experiences that I decided to move into the professional direction of holistic wellbeing. Flow is the most wonderful state of mind one can be in. When a person is able to maximize flow all the worries and fears about the past and the future disappear. In flow activities one is able to forget the demands of life and fully immerse in a state of bliss and enjoyment. To maximize flow should be a goal pursuit by everyone since the increasing the times of joy and positivity are ultimately contributing to a better experience of life. But especially in times like these to maximize flow can be a life saver. It makes everyday life more enjoyable. It gives you excitement and bliss in every moment no matter how bad circumstances are. Flow gives you back the magic and joy of life.
Flow is a state of mind caused by an activity that allows us to fully let go of everyday worries and demands of life and thus increase enjoyment and optimal experience of life. It is characterized as being all consumed by the task on hand being fully present and immersed in the moment by moment unfolding of life. This state of mind allows you to forget everything around you and fully give in to the present moment which will help you to expand your self and create order in the consciousness which in turn generates a wonderful feeling of peace, calm and bliss.
Flow is the secret of lasting happiness. Maximizing flow means to be present to be all consumed by the present moment activity at hand. This usually occurs when we expand our horizon when we engage in complex activities with a potential of growth and expansion that at the same time give us great pleasure. Like sports or problem solving for example. However we can consciously produce or create those flow states in everyday life. Our lives are covered with stress there are stressful situations multiple times throughout the day and while it is beneficial to reduce them for sake of inner peace and harmony you can also use them to create voluntarily flow states.
People who learned to be resilient and master stress have found a key to producing this state of flow in everyday life, because once stress is mastered you can use situations with that sort of tension to become extremely present and expand your mind and body beyond what you thought was possible and that will give you a sense of accomplishment and growth which together results in bliss.
They key to improving experience of life is to improve performance for simple tasks. It’s about asking yourself how you can get better in this task every day. The main objective is not the reward you get but the exciting feeling when working at high performance. Slowing down gets painful because the momentum will be lost. The experience of being better than you were yesterday and the momentum you get from doing it over and over again is what defines quality of life. And makes every little task amazing and joyful. Happiness lies in striving for personal improvement in everything you do rather than for the reward and outcome of the activity.
To maximize flow in that sense and challenge yourself every day on many levels will bring you bliss. To engage in tasks that are all consuming. To forget time in the activity to focus so hard on what you are doing right now that you forget the world around you.
The goal is to be so immersed in the task that you know every piece of information fits and even when you are frustrated knowing that the obstacle will be eventually overcome and you will have expanded your self. The challenges become opportunities. Flow results in growth because the self is becoming more complex no nature it’s differentiating with each flow experience. Because it is differing itself from others. It becomes more unique less predictable and possessed of rarer skills
While at the same time becoming more united and integrated. I flow there is order in the self, in this deep state of concentration and consciousness everything feelings thoughts sensations are one. And focused towards the same goal and then this flow experience is over one feels more together then before.

You need to learn to see the opportunities for yourself to maximize flow. There is potential for flow in almost everything you do and as we just learned flow isn’t a matter of what you do but more of how you do things. Mindset and attentional focus play a huge role when it comes to experiencing flow. It is about approaching an activity from a perspective that allows flow. Which means 1) you have to be intrinsically motivated to do the activity, 2) you have to set goals and strive for personal improvement in the activity, 3) you have to be able to gain immediate feedback on your progress, 4) you have to be able to concentrate on what we are doing, 5) the skills you have must match the challenges of the activity, 6) you must get a sense of control over your actions in the activity.
Let’s take walking as an example. The activity you engage in is walking so you must set goals on how far you walk or how long you walk in flow for example. Feedback then is the distance or time that has passed since you started. You must fully concentrate on each step you take thinking about nothing else but placing one foot after the other. You must be able to walk the path effortless but also not to easily so there is challenge and potential for the mind to be absorbed.
For COVID that could look as following. The activity you engage in is the mastery and personal improvement through the challenges of everyday life. The goal you set for yourself is to make every moment worth your time or to take something good out of everything that happens. Or to try to be present and use everything life brings you as an opportunity for improving your quality of life though simply concentrating your attention on the right things and staying in control of your inner world. The immediate feedback you get is realizing you’ve used another challenge as opportunity for growth or were able to stay present and not engage with the threats of the circumstance brought to you. You need to be highly concentrated to not let any negativity affect you or your state of mind and you are able to do this, but it is not easy.
This construct and way to approach the pandemic gives you an amazing opportunity to not only expand yourself but make life fun again. It still is hard and not always pleasant but it still is enjoyable and rewarding the more you realize how your self grows upon those activities.
